Some of these books have absolutely changed my life and I don’t mean this in the cliché sense, it really has made a huge impact on my life and I wanted to share them with you.

I first bought The Power Of Now in August 2012 at London Heathrow Airport on my way back to Dubai. I only got it as it had started to gain a lot of popularity and everyone was talking about it. I sat in the plane and started reading it, it made no sense to me at all. The book is written in very simple English but I just couldn’t comprehend what Eckhart was saying. So I shut the book and kept it away until Jan 2016. This can only mean one thing, I just wasn’t ready for it. In Jan 2016, when I unexpectedly lost my job, a job that was so dear to me that I made it part of my identity, my entire world came crashing down on me. I had no choice but to reach out to something, so I picked up The Power Of Now and I read it and it all made so much sense. I read it about 8 times since then.
The book is intended to be a guide for day-to-day living and stresses the importance of living in the present moment and avoiding thoughts of the past or future.

After being completely blown away by The Power Of Now, I picked up Eckhart Tolle’s next book – A New Earth. This is a more detailed book and talks about the pain body, the ego and how to live a more awakened and conscious life. I ended up reading this book around 5 times and have my own copy that I don’t lend to anyone. I have highlighted the parts that I could relate to made notes and highlights. Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle did a webcast on this book and discussed each chapter in detail.

When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron was recommended to me by a dear friend and it’s a book that you might not grasp the teachings instantly but a great read. I read it twice to understand most parts. After reading this book, it taught me to do a lot of forgiveness work. I realized I was holding onto so much that served me no purpose, the more people and experiences I forgave, the more free and spacious I felt inside.

I am a huge fan of Oprah’s Super Soul Sundays. Most of my book inspirations are from the guests she brings to Super Soul Sundays. Michael Singer author of The Untethered Soul, was a guest speak on the show and his book is a piece of art. He talks about “the voice in the head” in his book – The Untethered Soul. Highly recommend this book for those who cant stop the constant chatter in the head. For the most time, I cant stop the chatter in my head but I try to do a few small exercises like connect with nature and stare at a tree or count my in and out breaths, these things definitely will slow down the chatter in the head and help you stay connected with the present moment. These are outlined in detail in The Power Of Now.

As I said earlier, I read and re read The Power Of Now several times and I wish Eckhart Tolle wrote many more books like that. However he has a section on his website with his book recommendation and he highly commends the author Shakti Gwain. While all her books are not available in bookstores in Dubai, I managed to get a hold of her books Living In The Light and Path Of Transformation. Both beautifully written and there were many lessons I took away from her books.

If this is all too much, I recommend start with The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle, it is written in a dialogue format and it can be easily understood. Once you understand the basic principles of The Power Of Now, you are on your way to living a more enlightened life.
