Welcome to The Snack Society Kitchen.
Here, we not only deliver some of the most delicious, “free-from” and healthy treats, but we also share some of our best recipes so you can make them yourself. Either way, you can ditch the 3pm vending machine habit.
I am and have always been a lover of all kinds of delicious food. For the most of my adult life, I suffered with all sorts of digestive problems including bloating, heartburn and stomach cramps. In May 2015 I was diagnosed with a long list of foods I am intolerant to, including wheat, dairy and sugar.
It was, without a doubt, very challenging thing to bring about a complete change in my diet. This meant staying away from fudgy brownies, creamy birthday cakes and crispy biscuits to dunk in my afternoon cuppa. Removing these things from my diet proved to be even harder after I made a visit to the local supermarket and strolled through their “Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Organic” aisle, only to find that products were full of refined sugar, artificial preservatives and additives.
During a morning scroll through Facebook, I came across a recipe for delicious-looking coconut, date and almond balls made with all natural ingredients. I made them at home and it was epiphany from the first bite (I may have moaned a little). This is where the bumpy, but ultimately happy road to making these energy balls began. I started experimenting with different flavours, creating my own recipes and sharing the results with family, friends and colleagues. None of them believed that they were all-natural and healthy.
Two things I’ve been scared of are sharks and baking without butter and flour. However the more I experimented with different ingredients and free-from recipes, I continued to be amazed that for every naughty food craving, there is a natural, good-for-you answer.
It wasn’t until January 2016 that I was ready to share the good news: Eating clean does not mean missing out on the best things in life. This is when The Snack Society was born. The Snack Society is a great platform where I can share my love for healthy eating and show everyone that it can be made simple, delicious and doesn’t have to break the bank.
All our recipes are free from gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar, additives and preservatives. We use coconut, buckwheat, tapioca, arrowroot, almond and oat as flour substitutes; maple syrup, honey, dates, date syrup and coconut sugar in place of refined sugar and coconut oil instead of butter, margarine and other oils.
If you’re not one to blindly follow clubs and societies, have a look through our website and see if you want to be part of our Society.
